In the middle of March, the Latvian representatives of the 2007 EDEN winner Kuldiga as well as Latvian tourism experts visited the Írottkő Nature Park and the Őrség, also EDEN winner destinations.
The visitors started their programme on March 18 – after a wearisome 1,600 km long journey – in the Írottkő Nature Park: they took pleasure in the lovely view from the Óház lookout tower; then they wandered about the streets of Kőszeg. During the trip they were guided by György Bakos, President of the Írottkő Nature Park Association, who was asked about the marketing strategy of the best destination in 2009 in “Tourism and protected areas”, about local products and programmes as well as about the tourism of the nature park. The useful but exhausting programme ended in the Arany Strucc restaurant, where the company of twelve enjoyed traditional Hungarian dishes.
The guests arriving from the North spent the night in a guesthouse called Kosbor Panzió and on March 19 they visited the 2007 EDEN winner destination, the Őrség. They walked through the paths of the guards, who protected the area in the past and after whom the region got its name. They discovered the so-called ‘szeres’ settlement structure (which is a loose structure of houses) and the buildings typical of the region. They even made pumpkin-seed oil and of course the tasting of palinka was a compulsory part of the programme. On carriages they wandered through the forests of the Őrség, visited the medieval church in Velemér and popped into Albert Attila’s pottery in Magyarszombatfa. Their hosts made the day unforgettable for them with the tasty dishes of the Őrség: flap mushroom soup, “dödölle” (a dish made out of potatoes) and strudel with pumpkin and poppy-seeds.
